Conversation with Dave Garcia, Halftime Pizza

DaveGarciaDave lets us in on Halftime’s concept, craft beer and online ordering

Halftime Pizza

San Antonio, Texas

After closing their six-year-old Alamo City Pizza in 2010, Dave and wife Monica reentered the market with its sports-centered family pizzeria, Halftime Pizza, in July of 2014.

My wife Monica and I noticed a void in our neighborhood for a family friendly, sports-themed pizzeria without all the testosterone. Halftime Pizza is a place where family, friends and co-workers can gather to watch a sporting event and receive quality pizzas, a great atmosphere and top-notch service.

Here at Halftime Pizza we focus not only on pizza but also on the service, as well, and creating a fun, relaxed ambiance for all to enjoy. Halftime Pizza is focusing on the “craft” of making pizza and serving them up with some of the best craft beers out there.

On the closing of Alamo City Pizza — Probably the most important lesson I learned was not to take anything for granted. At ACP, we experienced some success. At that time I eased off the gas pedal. Here at Halftime Pizza we have a “pedal to the metal” attitude. My customers, staff and I can only benefit from this approach. We are fortunate to be in a neighborhood that not only appreciates, but welcomes my creativity and vision in becoming the best pizzeria in San Antonio.

We are just as passionate about craft beer as we are about pizzas. I have been brewing beer for several years now. I knew once I reopened that I would offer a great selection of craft beers. We will soon be installing a beer tower to hold a larger selection of craft beers. We have been researching the growler fillers, as well. One idea is to become a growler station and sell limited-edition growlers. We are working with one brewery to host a pizza and beer pairing event in the near future. Having craft beer in our pizzeria can only add to the entire sports bar theme (without all the testosterone).

Halftime Pizza is like no other pizzeria. Families and coupes feel comfortable coming to this sports bar.

One of our goals at the Pizza Expo was to look for an online ordering company. We are pleased to say that we signed up with Menufy. These guys are great. They set us up and are helping us grow our business with online ordering.

Currently we are offering free breadsticks with every online order. We have signage at our front door and at our take-out register reminding our customers about online ordering. We have spoken with Menufy about possibly working in some code specials. That way we can track our sales and customers better. Online ordering is new to me. But change is always good.
