California Pizza Kitchen Founders Pursuing New Concept

Last week we reported on Chipotle’s effect on pizza. This week brings news that a pair of heavy hitters are entering the ever-growing field of competitors vying to become the “Chipotle of pizza.”

According to this article in the Los Angeles Times, Larry Flax and Richard Rosenfield have announced that they will launch a so-called “fast casual” pizza chain. The duo, who founded L.A.-based California Pizza Kitchen in 1985, do not yet have a name for the new concept.

While few details are available at this point, the company will offer franchises.
