Cheese prices go up, but Americans still love it

2010 October: Mozzarella on the MoveBlock cheese prices on the Chicago Mercantile Exchange rose by 9.5 percent in the past month, ending 18 cents higher at $2.05 per pound. Cheese prices have experienced a steady rise since mid-November.

Rising cheese prices have not slowed America’s appetite as the average person eats more than 25 pounds of it per year.

Which cheeses score big in U.S.? Mozzarella dominates U.S. consumption, followed closely by cheddar, according the U.S.D.A. (Cream and Neufchatel make up 2.3 pounds, Swiss and provolone make up about 2.3 pounds and all other cheeses combined accounted for 7.6 pounds).
