Military develops pizza MREs that last three years

pizza mreWhat’s the most requested food item that soldiers want to eat while they are in the field? Pizza, of course. Military lab researchers in Massachusetts have developed a pizza “meal ready to eat” (MRE).

The U.S. Army Natick Soldier Research, Development and Engineering Center food scientists have spent nearly two years developing the recipe for a pizza MRE, which has a shelf life of three years, according to Boston.com.

The American staple is finding its way to soldiers at war and to astronauts in space. Developing such food advancements is a testament to Americans love affair with pizza. After all, one in eight eat pizza on any given day, as reported by the USDA’s “Consumption of Pizza” in America.
