Ordering a large pizza in Omaha, Nebraska yesterday held special meaning and purpose. On June 16, an EF4 tornado devastated the small town of Pilger, Nebraska.
Jeff Daley, owner of Ragazzi’s Pizza in Omaha wanted to help. He created the “Pizza of Pilger” fundraiser, enlisting more than 20 pizzerias in Metro Omaha to participate in a one-day fundraising event. On Monday, June 23, nearly two dozen Omaha pizzerias sold large cheese pizzas for $12 with all of the proceeds going directly to aid the Pilger community.
UPDATE: Pizza for Pilger raised more than $80,000 for the tornado victims, according to WOWT.com.
Daley coordinated with the Salvation Amy to be sure that Pilger will receive 100 percent of the money raised, according to Omaha.com. The list of participated pizzerias included: Ragazzi’s (two locations) Old Chicago (five locations), Big Fred’s, Dudley’s, Lighthouse Pizza, Mangia, Vallagio’s, Pizza Pie Guys, Villagio’s, Bene, Frank’s, Toppers, Baxters, Sgt. Peffer’s (three locations) and Valentino’s (six locations).
