Yesterday, as the United States set out to battle Germany in the FIFA World Cup, pizza orders flooded restaurants across the country. A GM at a pizzeria here in Louisville reported to Louisville Business First that he equated the match-time sales to an extra month’s sales.
Some Washington, D.C. pizzerias actually ran out of product, while others had jams of delivery orders exceeding two hours. A Pizza Hut spokesperson told USA Today that its Thursday lunch sales were up more than 50 percent.
The U.S. has caught World Cup fever and are flocking to restaurants and bars to watch the action.
The next United States match is Tuesday, July 1, 2014 at 4 p.m. EDT against Belgium, airing on ESPN. Will you be ready? Is your pizzeria airing the World Cup? What marketing tie-ins are you doing with the World Cup?
