When users search for restaurant menus on Google, full menus display right in the Google search. The feature shows users an ‘At a Glance’ menu with multiple tabs to other restaurant menu sections (appetizers, specials, entrees, etc.). Prices are listed.
Be warned: Google’s menu function is generated from an undisclosed third party, like Gayot, Zagat or allmenus.com. There is a real risk that some of the information may be outdated. According to SearchEngineLand.com, a Google spokesperson commented, “We cannot add menus for individual restaurants directly, but we are constantly working to expand our database of menus and restaurants.”
What’s this mean for pizzeria operators? Your menu or an outdated version of it could be out there for current and potential customers to see. Now’s the time to check to be sure that your menu is correct on Google search. Go to Google. Search for your restaurant and ‘menu.’ Verify all menu information is correct.
Because Google is using a third party to generate the menus, its unclear how operators can update their menus. For now, contact Google directly for outdated menus. It might just force an update to the Google search menu function to allow operators to update their menus.
