Another week, another pizza list. This one by The Huffington Post lists the top 10 pizza ingredients, with pepperoni taking the No. 1 spot. No surprise there, but spinach and pineapple also rounded out the top 10 list. Could the trend toward artisan flavors soon dethrone traditional juggernauts like sausage and green pepper?
With pizza as a $42.8 billion industry, we don’t see pizza straying too far to the left in terms of toppings, but when we asked 10 of the best pizzaiolos in the world to give us their hottest ingredients for 2013, toppings included smoked duck, quail eggs, Peppadews, kimchi, hot soppressata, fried chicken livers, roasted pumpkin and pistachio cream.
