That time is once again upon us! In just four months Pizza Today publisher Pete Lachapelle, art director Josh Keown, associate publisher Jerry Moschella and myself — along with a team of cyclists — will hit the road with our bikes in support of the Karen Mullen Breast Cancer Foundation. With October being both National Pizza Month and National Breast Cancer awareness month, there’s no better time to ask the nation’s pizzerias to band together and collectively fight a very worthy cause.
In 2011, our efforts, together as a pizza family, topped $100,000. In 2012, they neared $150,000. That means that in two years the industry has collaborated to filter nearly a quarter-of-a-million dollars directly to cutting edge breast cancer research.
In 2013, we want to roll well past the $150,000 mark. But we need your involvement to make that possible. If you’ve supported Slice of Hope in the past, you already know the ancillary marketing benefits your shop receives by being involved with such a great event. For everyone else, please get involved now! Believe me when I say your customers will thank you for it in droves. In the end, community involvement is what it’s all about.
This year, the Slice of Hope cycling crew will set up shop in beautiful New England. We’ll roll through Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, Massachusetts and Rhode Island. I’m looking forward to taking in the idyllic scenery from the saddle of my bike, as well as visiting some of the nation’s best pizzerias.
If your shop is located along the Slice of Hope route and you want to be involved in a big way, then I need to know about it now! We’re putting the finishing touches on our pitstops and still have a handful of openings, so shoot me a message at the e-mail address below before we book up and it’s too late.
Lastly, Slice of Hope T-shirts are now available! Visit www.pizzatoday.com to purchase yours.
