These days, smart phones can produce some amazing photos, especially with cell phone apps like Instagram, which adds flare and effects to the images. Depot seeks to capitalize on its customers’ fascination with camera phones and the pizzeria even offered a link with tips to create better phone images. Great idea.
Looking around Facebook at pizzeria’s pages it’s clear that a majority are not capitalizing on the prime real estate of the cover photo spot. With the Timeline layout, a large horizontal photo can be placed at the top of your page by simply clicking on the area to upload or select a photo from your Facebook account. Why not invite your patrons to share their images? It’s great advertising for your product. They are not only sharing the photos with you, but also with all of their Facebook friends. The same goes for Twitter.
The only thing that could have made this post a homerun was to create a contest, where the winner receives the cover photo, as well as something special in your place. Perhaps print the image and place it by the register as your featured photo. Don’t forget to promote the contest in the store at the table. You will see more folks pulling out their phones to take photos. Also, what about a prize for the winner, a pizza or appetizer, to entice more patrons to post photos?
