New day, new year, new leaf to turn for most of us. With 2015 behind us and our focus on 2016, I can’t help but wonder what some of Pizza Today’s readers resolve to accomplish in the next
I’m not big on New Year’s resolutions. People tend to get all excited about listing goals and then fail to put in the work to achieve them. How many people do you know who “are going to lose 20 pounds this year” and then completely give up by March 1? I know plenty. That’s why gym memberships skyrocket at the first of the year. Ever try working out at a YMCA between January 1 and March 1? Crazy packed. But after Spring Break those who are serious about fitness have the place to themselves again.
So I don’t make New Year’s resolutions. Instead, I set challenging-yet-realistic goals well in advance of January 1 and then get to work on hitting the stars for which I’ve aimed.
Still, there’s no better time than the beginning of a New Year to give your managers and staff new challenges. Whether it’s an upselling contest for servers or a labor cost goal for managers, now is a great time to provide a target and offer an incentive to those you rely on most to keep your pizzeria pumping. Make it fun and your staff will embrace it.
