I’ve got some exciting news to share regarding next year’s International Pizza Expo®, March 2–4, at the Las Vegas Convention Center. I’m pleased to announce that we’ve lined up two of the pizza industry’s most infl uential and recognizable personalities to jump-start your day and provide you with motivation and insight. This year our featured keynote speakers will be: Dave Brandon, Chairman of the Board and CEO of Domino’s Pizza, the world’s largest pizza delivery chain; and Tony Gemignani, owner of Pyzano’s Pizzeria in Castro Valley and Tony’s Pizza Napoletana in San Francisco, California.
Early in 1999, Tom Monaghan ended his 38-year reign as the leader of Domino’s Pizza, selling the company he founded to Boston-based Bain Capital. The new owner appointed Dave Brandon to lead the company into the next millennium, placing the former advertising and promotions executive atop the Domino’s leadership team. Domino’s Pizza stands as the recognized world leader in pizza delivery and sells more than 400 million pizzas worldwide every year. Domino’s Pizza is recognized as a Megabrand by Advertising Age magazine and is a past recipient of Pizza Today’s prestigious “Chain of the Year” award.
Nearly 11 years have gone by since Dave began at Domino’s, and since that time, the company has delivered with exciting new product introductions and innovations. In addition to pioneering the concept of effi cient delivery of made-to-order pizzas, Domino’s has been an industry leader and has been part of innovations that have made a signifi cant impact on the industry, such as the HeatWave® hot bag, 3D car-top sign, the spoodle and the new-age pizza box.
In 1991, when Tony Gemignani was eighteen, his brother Frank asked him to help out with his pizzeria, Pyzano’s, and the rest is history. Tony entered his fi rst pizza throwing competition at the 1995 International Pizza Expo and quickly became the world’s most renowned pizza tosser. With his international notoriety, Tony has toured the world tossing pizzas and has been a guest on several TV shows, such as the “Tonight Show,” “Good Morning America,” “The Early Show,” “The Today Show,” CNN and the Food Network. Tony Gemignani’s awards and accomplishments are almost too numerous to list, but here’s just a sampling:
? 9-time World Pizza Champion
? 8-time World Champion Acrobat
? World Champion Pizza Maker
? 2-time Food Network Gold Medalist
? 2-time Guinness Book World Record Holder
? Tony Gemignani’s International School of Pizza founder
? Author and business consultant.
The bottom line is that no other person in the pizza industry has been featured on more shows or has won more titles than Tony.
