Road to Expo: Ferriman Eyes the Entrepreneurial Mountaintop

Boston pizzeria owner and developer Doug Ferriman is a two-time Pizza Expo pizza-making champion, a 2014 World Master and the founder of two innovative pizza concepts. He’s still climbing his own personal career ladder, seeking opportunity in niches of his own creation.

Ferriman made his first mark at Crazy Dough’s, a slice business founded in 1999 and based on the concept that eye-catching pizza would fly out of display cases in his heavily trafficked urban locations. With his wife Melissa, he attached the slogan “Artisan Slice Bar” to the marketing of the company and grew it to five locations. Crazy Dough’s offers brick-oven, Sicilian and fire-grilled pies, and is constantly experimenting with new recipes.

This creative approach would keep most entrepreneurs engaged for a career, but Ferriman’s drive to innovate moved him in another direction. He’s now the founder and developer of Oath Craft Pizza, built on the promise that, with a unique crust and cheese-first toppings, it can bake a memorable pizza in less than 90 seconds. He co-developed a quick-cook method that really puts the “fast” in fast-casual. Here’s how Oath Craft’s process works:
