The Margherita pizza with its crushed tomatoes, fresh mozzarella and basil is the staple of the Neapolitan classics. It’s such a beloved pizza that each year, on June 11, pizza enthusiasts dedicate the day to mark its birthday (125th in 2014).
Eater took it upon itself to find out how much a Margherita pizza costs around the country. The national blog took a look at 73 Verace Pizza Napoletana (VPN)-certified pizzerias for the answer.
The highest priced Margherita pizzas can be found in New York City, San Francisco, Connecticut and Pittsburgh, where prices average $16. Florida’s Margherita averages $15; $11.65 in Chicago, $12 in Denver; $14 in Seattle and $14.16 in Southern California. The lowest priced Margherita is found in Pizza Today’s home state of Kentucky at $8.90.
