Pizza Hut, No. 1 on Pizza Today’s 2013 Top 100 Pizza Companies list, enters the slice market with the opening of two pizza by the slice locations — York, Nebraska, and Pawtucket, Rhode Island — this week, according to Entrepreneur.
Individual slices sell for $2 to $3 and are cut from a new 18-inch pizza, sold exclusively at the new stores. The York and Pawtucket stores will be the only Pizza Hut locations offering slices, but the chain looks to expand the concept throughout 2014.
Pizza Hut’s slice concept will position the pizza giant to compete in the fast-casual market. Recently, Chipotle and California Pizza Kitchen announced their plans to debut fast-casual concepts.
