Marco’s Offers Free Pizza on National Spinach Day

TOLEDO, Ohio, March 19, 2015 /PRNewswire/ — Thursday, March 26 is National Spinach Day, a day honoring a leafy green vegetable that’s loved by both Popeye and parents.  Marco’s Pizza is hoping you share the love by celebrating the day with an offer that benefits you and local food banks.  Just bring a can of spinach to your local Marco’s Pizza location on March 26 and receive a FREE Medium Grilled Chicken Florentine pizza, made with garden-fresh spinach.  The collected cans of spinach will then be donated to local food banks.  Offer is reserved for carryout and dine-in orders only at any participating Marco’s Pizza location across America.

This is the second year Marco’s has partnered with food banks on National Spinach Day to bring awareness and donations in the fight against hunger.   On March 26, Marco’s expects to collect thousands of cans of spinach and give away an equal number of Grilled Chicken Florentine pizzas.  The Grilled Chicken Florentine pizza is a special limited time menu item, which was brought back this year in response to strong customer feedback.  It’s the perfect pizza to welcome back spring – made with garden-fresh baby spinach, sliced Roma tomatoes, grilled chicken, a blend of four cheeses, and a creamy garlic Parmesan sauce.

“This was a successful community event for us last year and it’s a great way to share the love of spinach,” said Cathy Hull, chief marketing officer at Marco’s Pizza. “Together, we can support our communities by helping stock the shelves of our local food banks, while delighting our customers with the delicious flavor of our Grilled Chicken Florentine pizza.”

Donations to food banks often drop off after the holidays and the winter months.  With the National Spinach Day drive, Marco’s wanted to remind people that hunger needs don’t end after the cold weather months – it’s a year-round challenge.  According to a study conducted by Feeding America, one in seven Americans – 46 million people – rely on food pantries and meal service programs to feed themselves and their families.
