Nation’s Fastest Growing Pizza Franchise Hosts Cleveland Fundraising 5K to Kick off Initiative
Toledo, Ohio – When Adam Bragg, an assistant store manager at a Raleigh, N.C.-area Marco’s Pizza, faced financial pressure to pay for his 11-month old daughter’s cleft palette surgery, the company’s Slice of Support non-profit organization came through with much-needed funds. His daughter, Lillyana, recently underwent the surgery and is currently on the road to recovery.
Committed to its mission of being the Employer of Choice, the Pizza of Choice and the Partner of Choice in every community in which it operates, Marco’s Pizza, the fastest-growing pizza franchise in the United States, has over the years informally given back to employees and its communities in times of need. Now, after nearly doubling its size since 2013 to more than 700 franchises, the company announced it has formally established the Slice of Support non-profit organization.
The non-profit is designed to provide financial support for Marco’s Pizza team members who are facing personal or family hardship, in addition to fundraising for a variety of charitable causes that are important to Marco’s Pizza and its guests.
“Slice of Support will be a vehicle that allows our franchise family to go the extra mile in supporting franchisees, employees and local communities for worthy causes when help is needed,” said Bryon Stephens, president and COO of Marco’s Pizza. “We put our hearts and souls into delivering the best in class pizza and service to our guests. The non-profit allows us to give back to those who helped us get where we are by providing support to employees and communities in meaningful and diverse ways.”
The organization will primarily be funded by employee donations, which will create a pool of funds to be used for those in need in the Marco’s Pizza System. Slice of Support will also engage with local communities through a series of fundraising events to benefit various charities and organizations on a local level. Kicking off this new initiative, Marco’s Pizza will be hosting a 5K fundraiser in Cleveland on Sunday, October 23, where 80 percent of the proceeds will be shared with Northeast Ohio Feeding America food banks to help fund programs directed at school children most at risk for hunger.
Bragg, the assistant manager who was one of the first recipients of Slice of Support funds to help pay for his daughter’s surgery, said, “I’ve always believed in our product and the values that Marco’s Pizza stands for since I started working as a driver in 2009. Their generosity in my family’s time of need has not only strengthened that belief, but makes me proud to be a part of such a warm and caring community.”
As the only national franchise chain founded by a native Italian, Marco’s Pizza has carved out a niche in the industry as the expert in authentic Italian pizza, known for its fresh never-frozen dough made daily on site, a proprietary cheese blend that is fresh never-frozen and a secret pizza sauce recipe. The 700-plus unit company is well on its way to 1,000 locations in 2017, continuing to open an average of one new store every third day.
