SpeedLine Invests in Technology Overhaul to Equip for Future Advancements

By Pizza Today

ABBOTSFORD, BC, January 6, 2013—Pizza point of sale provider SpeedLine Solutions Inc., announced today that they recently completed an end-to-end technology overhaul of the SpeedLine point of sale development environment.

Designed to improve performance and security, these technology upgrades will enable restaurant companies to take advantage of new integrations and emerging technologies. This was a major investment in the long-term viability, scalability, and fit of SpeedLine POS with the forward-looking technology strategies of the company’s restaurant clients.
The next generation of point of sale systems will be the hub of a restaurant information network. Restaurant companies increasingly rely on the open architecture of their point of sale software to connect with a range of external systems and new web and mobile technologies. Supporting restaurant companies’ growth through new technology initiatives is the key driver for development at SpeedLine.

“The most persistent complaint we hear from restaurant chains who are evaluating new POS vendors,” comments Product & Technology Manager Jay Daunheimer, “is that they feel hamstrung by their existing POS systems, and are looking for a scalable, open architecture alternative. This overhaul of our development environment and code base will help ensure that our clients’ investment in POS software never becomes the limiter to their adoption of new technology solutions,” Daunheimer continues.

Today, restaurant companies use SpeedLine integration toolkits to connect the POS with more external systems—from mobile ordering to business intelligence to accounting and payroll. And they continue to ask for new data sharing and integration options.

So SpeedLine made the decision to focus the entire development team on a complete overhaul of the company’s development platform—as an investment in the future.

The overhaul included upgrades to the entire development platform, database, and reporting engine. Performance, security, and quality audits touched every line of code. Upgrades will support integration with new online and mobile services, platforms, and peripherals—but the project also addressed restaurant clients’ long term cost of ownership, with performance enhancements to extend the lifespan for legacy hardware.
