Each year we poll thousands of independent pizzerias across the United States. We use the data to compile our Annual Hot 100 Independents ranking. And, in doing so, we learn a lot of interesting things about our Hot 100. Such as …

• The average Hot 100 pizzeria operates three units
• The average age of a pizzeria in the Hot 100 is 27 years old
• Nearly 40 percent of our Hot 100 pizzerias plan to open a new store in the next year
• Hot 100 pizzerias with dine-in areas average 155 seats
• The average dinner check for a Hot 100 pizzeria is $23.46
• Of those who offer dine-in, it accounts for 62 percent of sales
• 47 percent of Hot 100 pizzerias offer pizza by the slice
• 22 percent of Hot 100 pizzerias offer a buffet
• 84 percent of Hot 100 pizzerias serve alcohol
• 50 percent of Hot 100 pizzerias serve liquor.
